SUBSTITUTE APPLICATION AND REQUIREMENTS

Please read all requirements carefully to ensure that the application is processed in the most efficient manner.

General Information
1.   Applicants must be twenty-one years of age or have two years post secondary class work. (College, Junior College, Vocational or Technical Schools)
2.   The length of time required for processing varies with each person.  Typically 4 to 12 weeks.
3.   All new substitutes must complete substitute orientation prior to substituting for Andalusia City Schools.
4.   All substitutes need to work three days each semester in order to maintain an active status.
5.   Substitute positions can be terminated at any time.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Prior to submitting your application to this office, please ensure ALL forms in the packet (including all tax forms) are completed, signed and dated.  All paperwork and documents must be submitted in order for the application to be processed.

1.   A copy of documents listed below must be included with your packet.
a.   Driver's license
b.   Social Security Card
c.   Proof of education (either high school diploma or GED or unofficial college transcripts).  Proof of Education is required for all positions except custodians.

2.   Applicants can submit the application and supporting documents to this office once the fingerprint process has been started, BUT cannot go to work until the background check has been completed. **SEE NOTE BELOW

3.   Applicants who are applying for Substitute Teacher's License for the first time must include a $30.00 Money Order or Cashier's Check payable to the "State Dept. of Education".  Fingerprint fees may also be paid through the Alabama Department of Education Teacher Certification Online Payment System, with Visa or MasterCard only, at www.alabamainteractive.org/education .  A transaction fee will be applied.  A copy of the receipt verifying the confirmation number and fee(s) paid must be included with the application packet.


**NOTE: Fingerprinting ($54.15) for a criminal background clearance can be done at locations approved by Cogent Systems.  See Print Locations and Hours along with other important information at www.cogentid.com/alabama.  Valid identification is required. 


Any applicant holding a VALID Alabama Teaching Certificate does not need to apply for a Substitute Teacher's License or be fingerprinted.
